So Saturday Mike and I drove allllll the way out to Middle Island NY for the SCA event St Andrews -- more precisely, A Funny Thing Happened to St Andrew on the Way to the Forum, An Investiture. It was called that because the Barony of An Dubhagheinn was investing a new Baron and Baroness, and the Baron's persona is late Roman. The main reason we were going, though, was to see the elevation of our friend Vettorio, mka Eric, into the Order of the Laurel, which is the SCA's highest arts award. He's a scribe who does exquisite work, and well deserved being made a Laurel.

ANYWAY. We got there in time for morning court, when Eric was going to be put on vigil, a day-long period of contemplation and receiving well-wishers and advice-givers. It was very entertaining -- the first snatch-and-grab summons to court I have seen in a long time. Kudos to His Majesty Ioannes for a lovely bit of shtick! He strolled through the audience with a fan (because it was really quite warm and muggy in the hall) until he came up behind Eric. He pretended to talk to someone else, then clapped Eric hard on the back and said "You're coming with me." Classic! And Eric was suitably shocked and surprised.

After court we went over to where Eric's vigil was being held and nibbled on the tasty spread made by his wife Lisa (how he had no clue of anything going on with all that food being prepared, I have no idea) and waited to speak with him. We chatted about persona (I'm going to send some Pictish art refs his way for a scroll) and about apprentices and the relationship between Laurel and apprentice. I think he got something out of it, despite being recently an apprentice himself. ^__^

Mike wandered around talking to people he doesn't get to see very often, and I stayed at Eric's vigil cause it was too warm and muggy to do much else. We left just before evening court, thus missing Eric's actual elevation; it was getting too miserable weather wise and we had a long drive home and were just tired and out of spoons. It was a good event though, and I was happy to see a deserving soul given the recognition he deserves!

Oh! Before we hit the event we went to Wertheim National Refuge in Mastic so Mike could collect the National Parks stamps. Then we went to Fire Island National Seashore and got more stamps, and the most adorable plushie ever for his niece: a plush horseshoe crab! Finally we hit the William Floyd Mansion after Google led us partly astray. (I swear, Google Maps kept sending us on backroads and cowpaths to get from one place to the next all bloody day.)

Summer seems to have come back this past week, no doubt due to the tropical weather elsewhere in the country. Temps were up close to 80 and the humidity was very high. Bleh. This week promises more of the same. BLEH.

I'm teaching a Heraldry 101 class tomorrow at Kingdom A&S and I have exactly one thing typed for a hand out - my list of sources. Everything else is going to be a quick run down, showing off SENA and the Admin Handbook, and then questions! I like answering questions. I will make sure my phone is ready to go and maybe even my notebook computer since it's sometimes easier to see something on that screen that a phone screen.

I am a terrible lecturer. AND Adalyde put me up against Morin's Poison Garden class. HOW COULD SHE. I've offered a prize to whoever shows up to my class with Morin's handout.

I loaned out Seasons 2 and 3 of Game of Thrones to Jenna. She devoured Season 1, so I need to eventually pick up the physical copies of Seasons 4-7.

Dystopia Rising has been awesome lately, I've decided to create a Rover Sawbones (basically a combat medic) and I'm pretty sure I will not use a weapon the first couple of games. Mostly because I need the build for other stuff. Like Rescue and Scrounge and other stuff like that.

I forgot that there was a youngish James Woods in John Carpenter's Vampires. I like this movie a lot, no joke. Then again, I like James Woods. But the effects are really neat. Daniel Baldwin makes me groan a lot, though. I'm not a huge fan of him.

I have an awful lot of stuff to get ready for the month of October. It is full of stuff to do - first weekend in October is actually empty, then there's Coronation, Four Horsemen, Diamond Wars and GAHSS, DR:AR (debuting my Rover on my birthday weekend) and then my cousin Caitlin's wedding. Wow. Busy.

Another quiet week. Though frankly I'd rather have quiet weeks than hectic weeks, because hectic usually turns into the Chinese sense of "interesting". XD Only excitement was getting my eyes examined at the VA on Thursday. My eyes are good! My prescription hasn't changed in a year. ^__^ Of course, I had to drive home with my eyes dilated, and that was fun (not). XD

Thinking of everyone down in Florida affected by Hurricane Irma, man... <3

Last week was very very nice weather-wise, apart from some rain which we actually need. This week looks to be glorious again, a bit warmer than last week with the highs in the 70s to around 80 and slight chances of rain late in the week.

This week will be another pretty quiet one til the weekend, when we are going to lunch on Friday at The Hamilton Kitchen for Allentown Restaurant Week, and then Saturday I am going with Mike to the St Andrews SCA event out on Long Island. ^__^ Feels like I haven't been to an SCA event in ages. XD

So Lennon went to the vet again last Monday since his poopy issues hadn't resolved, and he stayed overnight so that the ultrasound tech could get to him on Tuesday morning more easily. The animal hospital sent Angie a text on Tuesday with a picture of him in his hospital "room" and an update, which we thought was really nice of them. Phone tag ensued with the vet who was treating him, and I finally went down to Quakertown to pick him up around 3.30.

He has inflammation in his intestine and around his pancreas and one of his kidneys, poor boy. So he's on a couple of antibiotics and a pain killer -- and if you don't think dosing a 13lb cat who wants nothing to do with you sticking anything in his mouth is fun, you've got another thing coming. We've managed to get most of his meds in him without him drooling or spitting it out, so that counts for something. He also got a special diet for his sensitive innards, and luckily he loves it. Hopefully all this stuff will fix him right up and we can concentrate on his kidneys.

Other than that, not much happened. XD Friday we went downtown for the opening of a pub run by a cidery, Hardball Cider -- all their ciders are named after baseball terms or after great players. ^__^ Cute concept! The cider was excellent; I had their Splitter and it tasted just like biting into a nice crisp apple. And the food was fun! They do farm to table gastro-pub takes on ballpark food, so we had the mac & cheese and andouille corn dog. Fantastic! They used orzo instead of regular pasta, and it was genius for that sort of thing. We'll be back!

it was also Labor Day on Monday (yesterday)! Mine was very quiet, pretty much just another day. ^__^ Got groceries delivered since I was having some kind of dizziness/balance issues and didn't trust myself to drive. Guess what's causing it? A COLD in one of my deep sinuses. *grump* Feeling so stupid in the head I nearly forgot to post today!

It was rather nice this past week, almost as if Fall was coming or something. ^__^ It was only really warm one day! We also got a bit of rain and some really chilly temps on the weekend with the remnants of Harvey. This week is going to start out warm, in the 80s, then cool back down. Yay! It'll be wet too, but better wet than drought.

Walking to Rivendell:
You have walked 394.7 miles.
You have passed Three Stone Trolls.
It is 3.3 miles to the next landmark.
You have 63.3 miles to reach Rivendell.

Did a bit of walking around downtown trying to find Hardball Cider XD turns out we parked on the exact wrong end of Main Street. XD

Not going to lie, I much prefer a lot of [personal profile] recessional's YBEB'verse but parts of Civil War isn't too bad. I rather enjoy the excitement of Peter Parker, the ridiculousness of Ant-Man, the way they made Tony Stark look so young in the scene with his parents (Robert Downy Jr really does look much more respectable as an older fellow. He grew into his features. Rather like Ringo Starr and his nose.).

Parts of it is really enjoyable. Parts of it make me cringe. pretty hard.

I got Agent Carter updated and running again. Woo! Yay! It took a bit of hard work, especially when considering the fact that I was on an unstable version of Ubuntu. I had not been previously made aware that the uneven versions are unstable. Now I know that the even ones are the versions I need.

There are a billion loads of laundry that need dealing with, it feels like. All the sheets and towels and napkins and socks. Lots of socks. (Why is this guy such a horrible dude, I cannot stand William Hurt sometimes, ugh, ugh, ugh) I really enjoy Elizabeth Olson and her facial expressions.

I am feeling grumpy because Brent will be going to Texas and he's going through Dallas and it will add a good bit of time. I'm also concerned about Irma because we really don't have any idea of where she's going to go and the Gulf Coast cannot handle another storm like this right now. There's just not a lot of places to go if it hits.

Grump, grump, grump.

I have a hat waiting for me in Metarie at the Scout Shop.
It is a crushable wool felt hat. Crushable. That's a fancy hat.

Jenna's got to take Oliva (a mutual friend) to the airport tomorrow, so I'm going to ride with her and we'll stop on the way.

(Yes, I am being avoidant of Irma and any sort of thing.)
